  • Research Projects
    • "The State of Youth"
    • The State of Youth Survey has been funded by UNDP and designed and conducted by YADA within the scope of "National Human Development Report 2007". The project has been finalized on August 2007.
    • The theme of UNDP's National Human Development Report in 2007 is 'Youth in Turkey'. YADA contributed to the report with a quantitative research, which aimed to explore socio-demographic profiles, capabilities, perspectives, attitudes and values of youth in Turkey together with the constraints before and opportunities of youth in education and working life. The targeted population of the survey was the youth between the ages of 16-24. The research was conducted in Istanbul, Adana, Malatya, Ankara, Izmir, Bursa, Tekirdag, Diyarbakir, Samsun, Trabzon, Kayseri and Erzurum. Moreover, YADA team conducted focus group meetings with adults in order to analyse their perception of 'youth'. The data obtained in the research provided input for National Human Development Report 2007.

    • "Social Impact Assessment of SGP's Biological Diversity Projects and Determination of GEF-SGP's Working Fields with Vulnerable Groups" project was funded by UNDP/GEF-SGP and conducted by YADA from February 2006 until March 2007.

    • "NGO-Public Sector Relations in Turkey"
    • Research as a part of EU project "Technical Assistance for Improving Co-operation between the NGOs and the Public Sector and Strengthening the NGO's Democratic Participation Level" conducted by The General Secretariat of European Affairs with technical assistance through British Council from January 2006 until February 2006. The cluster analysis and field research was sub-contracted to YADA Foundation. The field research and related analysis were conducted by YADA team in collaboration with Dialogue Development/Denmark.
    • The objective of the EU project was to establish an environment in which Public Sector institutions and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) could further develop cooperation; thus, increasing participation of Civil Society in the democratic process. But the object of the cluster analysis that YADA implemented within this larger project was to initiate a cluster analysis in order to identify areas of greatest potential for the development of partnerships of the NGO and public sector in the medium term.
    • The research concentrated on the four cases of state-civil society partnership (Society Centres (Antalya and Ankara), Prime Ministry Human Rights Advisory Boards, Municipalities (Mugla, Samsun-Gazi and Istanbul-Beyoglu) and Social Assistances and Solidarity Foundations/Social Risk Mitigation Project). During the field researches, in-debt interviews were conducted with the representatives of the above-mentioned partnership projects.
    • The report indicated the obstacles before constituting cooperation between civil society and public sector. The distance between two sectors fed the discriminatory practices as the civil society did not perceive public sector as one of the important base of producing solutions. Public sector on the other hand was far from recognizing the demands of civil society. The aim of the study, developing strategies for increasing the participation level of civil society to decision making processes, was hence highly related with developing strategies for combating discrimination. Besides, the report served for the development of future strategy for locating possibility of NGO and public sector cooperation.

Warszawy (Poland), Volkshochschule Donaustadt (Austria), Instituto Politecnico de Portalegre/Escola Superior Technologia a Gestao (Portugal), Escola Superior de Educação do Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco (Portugal), CEMIM/Centrum Edukacji Miedzykulturowej i Medialnej (Poland), Katholieke Hogeschool Leuven/Departement Lerarenopleiding (Belgium), Ministry of Culture and Tourism/General Directorate of Libraries and Publications (Turkey) and YADA Foundation is to ensure the participation of adults to the social life as active citizens through reading clubs. In 2007, the project was selected among the best 20 projects supported by Socrates Program within 5 years.
    • One of the most important tasks of lifelong learning consists in nurturing intellectual activities such as reading and writing. Creating reading and writing habits among adults is also one of the best ways of keeping them socially active and culturally engaged. In the light of these objectives, Reading Days About Life, in which books and films are read together, have been performed in every Saturday on 13:00 pm in YADA Foundation since January 2007. The facilitatorship of the reading club has been undertaken by individuals who have expertise in the fields of adult education, political science and communicative sciences (specifically cinema).
    • The participants of the Reading Days are mainly individuals between the ages of 28 and 55. While reading the texts, sharing and discussing the ideas constitute to the heart of the Reading Days, the issue of ‘multiculturalism’ has constituted the base line of the texts and discussions. Furthermore, since the leitmotiv for all groups within the READCOM in the 2006/7 period was determined as 'identities/exile', certain texts covering several subtopics concerning this leitmotiv have been read. Among these texts, alongside the written ones such as stories and novels, there have also existed visual texts like long films. Some of the topics on which readings and discussions have been realized were 'Identity or Difference?', 'Settlement, Unsettlement', 'Generations', 'Difference in History' and 'East/West'. Participants have contributed in all discussions with their own experiences and memories, that is to say, they have rewritten the texts they have been dealing with. On the other hand their reluctance to the act of writing, have made discussions to be remained at an oral basis and to be restricted with the notes that have been taken by facilitators.
    • Besides the reading clubs, the project also produced guides for mentors in order to manage reading clubs. Click for the "Module on Multicultural Education through Books and Films for Adults" prepared by YADA team.
